FIU and Regis Form Alliance

Regis House is undergoing a total renovation in which its legacy information systems needed to be replaced and updated with modern technologies. Funding for this transformation is a challenge that’s when Nordleen De Frias Regis House interim IT Director decided to speak to Professor Michael Robinson, MSc, from FIU’s School of Computer and Information Science to explore the possibility of forming an alliance in which both parties benefited. Professor Robinson is the founder of the Hardware Lab at FIU PG-6 Building and Regis House presented an opportunity for his Information Technology students to acquire hands on experience by helping with the set-up of a new IT Network and other projects that go along with it. In the Summer of 2017 FIU and Regis House started working together with over 30 students from the IT Program to assess what needed to be done in reference to the new network. We are presently at Phase II of the project and looking forward to a second Fall semester of 2017 to continue with the technical work. The symbiotic relationship created by both FIU and Regis House is a combined effort in which both students and the Regis Community benefits. Students benefit by acquiring experience and being exposed to a real life scenario and Regis House benefits by getting a brand new Network installed. This project includes an new IT Network re-wired with CAT5-Plenumn cable, the implementation of Active Directory, a Hybrid Data center, 20 plus thin clients, and a telephone system that runs on VoIP/IPSec. Regis House would like to thank Professor Michael Robinson, MSc, and his students for getting us the help we need to continue operations and transition into the 21st Century.

Beautiful Dinner Celebration: Father Pérez-Lerena Retirement

It was a beautiful evening as Regis House celebrated Father Pérez-Lerena’s Accomplishments and retirement. The night opened with the Jesuit Jazz Band playing as all of our donors came to recognize Father Pérez-Lerena and help fundraise for Regis House. Over 200 people in attendance supported Regis House and they had a wonderful dinner prepared by Chef Richard Moncada, listened to amazing client success stories, and bided on auction items. Father Pérez-Lerena was honored with the city of Miami Proclamation by Mayor Thomas Regalado. The new successor Father Pedro Suarez spoke about the all that Regis House is doing to help our community and future plans. We want top thank all of our Sponsors for helping us reach our goal amount for the evening.
